Mitch is in his 4th year with the Washington Capitals after 16 seasons with the Nashville Predators and previously seven seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. Mitch is celebrating his 27th year in the NHL.

After 26 seasons, Korn has stepped away for the “day to day” coaching grind to become the Cap’s “Director of Goaltending”.

His hard work, superb communication skills, ability to “dissect" a goalie’s game, and great sense of humor have gained him the respect and friendship of those he has coached and worked with at all levels. In 2010, “The Hockey News” chose Mitch as “one of the top 10 Genius’ in hockey”.

With Braden Holtby’s nominations (2016 and 2017) and winning of the 2016 Vezina Trophy, it marked the 8th Korn coached goalie nomination and 5th awarded Vezina.  Dominik Hasek also won 2 MVP Hart trophies under Korn. He is the only coach in NHL history to coach a goaltender to a Vezina Trophy with two different teams (Buffalo, Washington).  Korn goalies have earned the Jennings Trophy (fewest goals against) in both Buffalo (Fuhr and Hasek) and Washington (Holtby).

Fondly referred to as “Children of the Korn” (a phrase coined by Capitals head coach Barry Trotz) these current and former goalies (many of whom are now coaching) have benefited from and helped spread the “goalie gospel according to Mitch”.

Besides having coached present and former pro goalies Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer, Pekka Rinne, Carter Hutton, Devin Dubnyk, Scott Darling, Anders Lindback, Justin Peters, Pheonix Copley, Jeremy Smith, Vitek Vanecek, Parker Milner, Adam Carlson, Magnus Hellberg, Marek Mazanec, Mike McKenna, Chris Mason, Dan Ellis, Marty Biron, Mark Dekanich, Dominik Hasek, Tomas Vokoun, and Drew MacIntyre, Mitch has coached and influenced many others who have (in the past) or who are currently coaching professionally. They include: Ben Vanderklok (Nashville), Scott Murray (Caps), Steve Briere (Toronto), Wade Flaherty (Winnipeg), Mike Bales (Carolina), Grant Fuhr (formerly Phoenix), Steve McKichan (formerly Toronto), Corey Hirsch (formerly St. Louis), Mike Valley (formerly Dallas), Clint Malarchuk (formerly Calgary), Olaf Kolzig (development for Caps), Mike Dunham (AHL for Boston), Karl Goehring (AHL for Tampa), Alex Westlund (AHL for Caps) Seamus Kotyk (AHL for Buffalo), Steve Shields (formerly AHL now Univ. of Michigan), Ty Conklin (formerly AHL for St. Louis) and Bob Janosz (formerly AHL for Buffalo).

In addition, Mitch has trained countless others who now are in the "goalie business" coaching, scouting and training a "new generation" of goaltenders at various levels. Some include Nick Petraglia, Chris Economou, Justin Goldman, Phil Bowles, Svein Hagaseth, Josh Hand, Jon DeCastro, Bill Pye, Jerome Bergquist, Robb Stauber, Justin Camuto, Cody Osborne, Alan Avery, Andrew Furbush, Laura Pecchia, Eric Sorenson, Bill Horn, Shane Connelly, Nick Blanchette, Chris Carter, Kevin Kreutzer, Rich Shulmistra, Dan Kodatsky, etc. Mitch is truly a teacher and a mentor.

Mitch has over 40 years of organizing and running summer hockey programs and will personally do all the coaching for each Goalie Camp. He is absolutely “hands on”.

Thank you so much. Your camp is far and away the best goalie camp in the world. Your staff in second to none and were great with me. My dad and I drove from Long Island to Cincinnati. We were expecting a good camp and but it exceeded our expectations beyond belief. Never have I heard my dad brag and go on and on about one coach or clinic but after yours he told everyone about how great your camp was. You said we would leave much smarter and much better and that was true. It was only one ice session and I felt a major improvement. Most of all you are the funniest coach in the world! Never have I laughed so hard while playing hockey!! Your presence and instruction has made me a much better goalie and I just wanted to thank you for everything.

I would like to thank you for the amazing and insightful experience I had while at your camp in Northford, CT. I have never been to a camp that has opened my eyes and challenged my body quite like yours did. The ideas and concepts you talked about made me realize that goaltending is a much deeper and complex position than I had even imagined. The idea of Head Trajectory has really made me think about the way I skate around the crease, track the puck, and play the position as a whole. Not overreacting on easily handle-able wrist shots and simply shifting so I am able to be square to the puck has eliminated a problem in my game that has been plaguing me for some time. Also, being a small goalie (only 5'7"), you taught me how to play bigger than I am, using every inch of my body to provide as little space as possible for the puck to go in. In the past year or so, it has become clear to me that goaltending is something that I want to be in my life as I grow older. I have also realized that the only way I would be able to become proficient at this position and have a chance to play higher levels is that I would have to work and compete to become the best goaltender that I can possibly be. I realize that I have to become quicker, smarter, and more mentally sound then any of the taller goalies if I want to be successful. But it was with your camp that has gotten me much closer to my goal. There aren't many people like you, who (especially with all of the success you have seen working in the NHL with some of the best goalies to play the game) spend their time planning camps to share the knowledge you have learned over the years with aspiring young goalies like me, and do so many of these camps over the course of the summer for so many years. And for that I am extremely appreciative and thankful. It was an honor to even talk to you about the position, let alone actually work with you on the ice. Thank you for this memorable experience, and I hope I can come back next year to work hard and become even better.

First off, I'd like to thank you for giving Jonathan an opportunity to work with you and your team. He has been all smiles and you guys have made him feel like family. Both Anthony and Thomys had an amazing time and have learned so much. They are all begging to come back next year. I have met with many goalie coaches and by far the way you run your camp is the best. Your control, presence and style make it so unique. Your years of experience show in every minute you are on the ice. Thank you for everything.
