Mitch is in his 1st season with the NY Islanders after 4 years with the Washington Capitals, 16 seasons with the Nashville Predators and 7 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. Mitch is celebrating his 28th year in the NHL…and he is now a Stanley Cup Champion

His hard work, superb communication skills, ability to “dissect" a goalie’s game, and great sense of humor have gained him the respect and friendship of those he has coached and worked with at all levels. In 2010, “The Hockey News” chose Mitch as “one of the top 10 Genius’ in hockey”.

With Braden Holtby’s nominations (2016 and 2017) and winning of the 2016 Vezina Trophy, it marked the 8th Korn coached goalie nomination and 5th awarded Vezina.  Dominik Hasek also won 2 MVP Hart trophies under Korn. He is the only coach in NHL history to coach a goaltender to a Vezina Trophy with two different teams (Buffalo, Washington).  Korn goalies have earned the Jennings Trophy (fewest goals against) in both Buffalo (Fuhr and Hasek) and Washington (Holtby).

Fondly referred to as “Children of the Korn” (a phrase coined by Islanders head coach Barry Trotz) these current and former goalies (many of whom are now coaching) have benefited from and helped spread the “goalie gospel according to Mitch”.

Mitch has coached many present and former pro goalies including Robin Lehner, Thomas Greiss, Chris Gibson, Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer, Pekka Rinne, Carter Hutton, Devin Dubnyk, Scott Darling, Pheonix Copley, Jeremy Smith, Vitek Vanecek, Parker Milner, Marek Mazanec, Mike McKenna, Chris Mason, Dan Ellis, Marty Biron, Dominik Hasek, and Tomas Vokoun, (to name a few).

Mitch has coached and influenced many others who have (in the past) or who are currently coaching professionally. Some include: Ben Vanderklok (Nashville), Scott Murray (Caps), Steve Briere (Toronto), Wade Flaherty (Winnipeg), Mike Bales (Carolina), Grant Fuhr (formerly Phoenix), Steve McKichan (formerly Toronto), Corey Hirsch (formerly St. Louis), Mike Valley (formerly Dallas), Clint Malarchuk (formerly Calgary), Olaf Kolzig (development for Caps), Mike Dunham (AHL for Boston), Karl Goehring (AHL for Tampa), Alex Westlund (AHL for Caps) Seamus Kotyk (AHL for Buffalo), and Steve Shields (formerly AHL now Univ. of Michigan).

In addition, Mitch has trained countless others who now are in the "goalie business" coaching, scouting and training a "new generation" of goaltenders at various levels. Some include Nick Petraglia, Chris Economou, Justin Goldman, Phil Bowles, Svein Hagaseth, Josh Hand, Jon DeCastro, Bill Pye, Jerome Bergquist, Robb Stauber, Justin Camuto, Cody Osborne, Nick Johnsen, Cam Doomany, Dillon Caffrey, Andrew Furbush, Laura Pecchia, Eric Sorenson, Bill Horn, Shane Connelly, Nick Blanchette, Chris Carter, Kevin Kreutzer, Rich Shulmistra, Dan Kodatsky, etc. Mitch is truly a teacher and a mentor.

Mitch has over 40 years of organizing and running summer hockey programs and will personally do all the coaching for each Goalie Camp. He is absolutely “hands on”.

I have known Mitch Korn since 1989 when he coached my son Mark Michaud. His professional guidance made Mark an excellent goaltender. He starred at Miami of Ohio for 4 years - 1989-1993. Following the CCHA playoffs in 1993, Mark went on to sign a 2 year contract with the Ottawa Senators and then signed a one year deal with the Florida Panthers in 1995. Thanks to Mitch’s guidance in the early part of his university career, Mark became a superior goaltender. Following the success with my son, I took my grandson Shayne Dietl to two of Mitch’s summer goaltending camps in Nashville. His superb coaching enabled Shayne to play 2 years of Jr. A hockey in Canada as the starting goaltender. Unfortunately, my grandson Shayne was killed in a car accident on December 17, 2017. He was in his 3rd year of Medicine at University in Florida. I mention all of this to show what an influence Mitch had on his life. He not only coached him in his hockey career, but most importantly made a super young man out of him. I can remember the positive conversations Mitch had with Shayne. He had a message for all of his goalie school attendees…it was not only about improving their hockey skills but most importantly how they should proceed through life whether they make it in hockey or not. My deepest thanks to Mitch for his influence in both my son’s life and especially for his influence on my grandson’s short life. Mitch you are the MAN. Wishing you a lot of luck in your new endeavors with the Islanders. Congrats on the CUP!

I just wanted to say thank you for the enormous impact you’ve had on my daughter, Katie. She attended your camp in St Louis in June and talks nonstop about what you said during the camp, and she applies it to her practice. I’m proud of the goalie she’s become after having played for only three years. As any girl goalie would, she has her heart set on becoming an Olympic goalie. With your influence, I’m pretty sure she could get there. Katie did October Saves last year and I just signed her up again. Hoping to raise more money this year!!! Thanks for all you’ve done for youth goalies. You are amazing.
