Mitch is in his 5th season with the NY Islanders after 4 years with the Washington Capitals, 16 seasons with the Nashville Predators and 7 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. Mitch is celebrating his 32nd year in the NHL…and was a Stanley Cup Champion in 2018.

His hard work, superb communication skills, ability to “dissect" a goalie’s game, and great sense of humor have gained him the respect and friendship of those he has coached and worked with at all levels. In 2010, “The Hockey News” chose Mitch as “one of the top 10 Genius’ in hockey”.

With Robin Lehner’s nomination in 2019 and Braden Holtby’s earning of the 2016 Vezina Trophy, it marked the 9th Korn coached goalie nomination and 5th awarded Vezina for Korn. Dominik Hasek also won 2 MVP Hart trophies under Korn. He is the only coach in NHL history to coach a goaltender to a Vezina Trophy with two different teams (Buffalo, Washington) and to have earned 3 Jennings Trophies (fewest goals against) with 3 different teams (Buffalo, Washington, NY Islanders).

Fondly referred to as “Children of the Korn” (a phrase coined by former Islanders head coach Barry Trotz) these current and former goalies (many of whom are now coaching) have benefited from and helped spread the “goalie gospel according to Mitch”.

Mitch has coached many present and former pro goalies including Semyon Varlomov, Ilya Sorokin, Cory Schneider, Thomas Greiss, Chris Gibson, Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer, Vitek Vanecek, Robin Lehner, Pekka Rinne, Carter Hutton, Devin Dubnyk, Scott Darling, Pheonix Copley, Parker Milner, Mike McKenna, Chris Mason, Dan Ellis, Marty Biron, Dominik Hasek, and Tomas Vokoun, (to name a few).

Mitch has coached and influenced many others who have (in the past) or who are currently coaching professionally. Some include: Ben Vanderklok (Nashville), Scott Murray (Wash.), Steve Briere (Seattle), Alex Westlund (Detroit), Wade Flaherty (Winnipeg), Mike Bales (Buffalo), Olaf Kolzig (development for Wash.), Mike Dunham (AHL for Boston), Justin Peters (AHL for Ottawa), Drew McIntyre (AHL for Winnipeg), Seamus Kotyk (AHL for Buffalo), Karel Popper (USHL), Karl Goehring (North Dakota), Shane Connelly (U. of Wisconsin), Grant Fuhr (formerly Phoenix), Corey Hirsch (formerly St. Louis), Mike Valley (formerly Dallas), Clint Malarchuk (formerly Calgary), and Jan Lasak (Slovakia).

In addition, Mitch has trained countless others who now are in the "hockey business" coaching goalies and others, scouting and training a "new generation" of goaltenders/players at various levels. Some include Nick Petraglia, Chris Economou, Justin Camuto, Justin Goldman, Nick Johnsen, Phil Bowles, Bob Janosz, Jon DeCastro, Bill Pye, Jerome Bergquist, Robb Stauber, Cody Osborne, Cam Doomany, Dillon Caffrey, Andrew Furbush, Laura Pecchia, Eric Sorenson, Bill Horn, Jim Stanaway, Nick Blanchette, Chris Carter, Kevin Kreutzer, Rich Shulmistra, Dan Kodatsky, Tom Sullivan, Alvin Dow, etc. Mitch is truly a teacher and a mentor.

Mitch has over 40 years of organizing and running summer hockey programs and is personally deeply involved in each Camp. He is absolutely “hands on”.

  • Mitch teaches all aspects of the Goalie Camps.
  • Who can match 32 years of NHL coaching?
  • Does anyone have a better resume of pupils?
  • Our system is not just theory...it works!
  • Our Defenseman Program is run by Adam McHugh. Nobody breaks down the position better than Adam.
  • Mitch will personally answer any question you have via phone or email.
  • We just don't hammer pucks at the goalies.
  • Each goalie will definitely be a much smarter goalie when they finish with our camps.

Hey Mitch! … Thank you for running an amazing camp where these players became better on and off the ice. Michael and Luke have made many comments since your camp about their learning and what it means to be a great teammate. Thank you for helping instill these values in their young minds!

Jake had a great time and can’t wait to go back next year. Thank you for your dedication to these kids and helpers. I attached the photo of you and Jake with his award. He loves the hat, shirt, and book!

This is Brian Queen, Brendan's Dad. This past week in Reston was Brendan's 1st time attending Korn Camp. He loved it. Thank you for providing a great experience. He's already looking forward to next year. I thought the camp was great too. Organized, structured and well run. Your coaches, young assistants and shooters were excellent. The hotel was fantastic and convenient to the rink. I also appreciated your opening and closing remarks. You talked about several things that I have discussed with Brendan over the years. School, doing the right thing and making good decisions. You helped reinforce with him values that we believe in. Mitch, Thanks again for proving Brendan with an awesome camp and for sharing your knowledge and experience with him and your other campers.

I wanted to send a big “THANK YOU!” to you and your team of coaches for working with Charlie this week. After the first day, he jumped in the car and with a huge smile on his face said, “Mom, I learned a lot today! So much I just didn’t know! This camp is by far the best I’ve ever been to!” Camp has rekindled Charlie’s love for the position. Your positive reinforcement and knowledge shared, has given him the self-confidence and tools he needs to help him and his team succeed. As Charlie’s mom, I am truly grateful to you and your team! Thank you just doesn’t seem enough!

What you do for these kids is incredible! So much hockey is packed into 4 days. Quinn will never forget this trip to Nashville and your amazing staff. And Noah’s goal is now to be a counselor someday.
